The Greenwich Audubon Center is excited to offer our Summer Nature Day Camp in 2025! Each week, campers at Greenwich Audubon Center’s Summer Nature Day Camp explore nature in a fun, safe environment within the 285 acres of our nature sanctuary. Audubon camp fosters curiosity through outdoor discovery that helps campers develop an understanding of the natural world. These unique experiences and adventures can grow into a lifelong appreciation for our environment. This year, we are shaking things up with 7 uniquely themed weeks of fun-filled activities, outdoor experiences, and adventure! Each theme focuses on a different aspect of nature, conservation, and the environment around us!

Our camp days are filled with a variety of activities—including hiking, pond and stream exploration, crafts, nature-themed games, live animal interactions, and birding. Our staff is selected for their experience and skills working with youth and for their interest in local ecology and natural history. All staff must pass background checks and are required to hold current CPR and First Aid certifications, making camp a safe place to learn about and experience nature.

Camp Age Groups: We will have two camp group cohorts this year!

  • The Explorers: Ages 5-7 - Explorers will learn all about ecosystems, ecology, science and nature while being introduced to different habitats, interacting with our animal ambassadors, playing in nature during wildlife-based games, making arts and crafts that help them engage with and understand the natural world surrounding them, and learning small ways they can help protect birds and places they need.

  • The Adventurers: Ages 8-10 - Adventurers wander all over our 285-acre nature sanctuary, design their own nature-based games, and participate in STEM focused lessons relating to our weekly themes, building upon the knowledge they already have. Join us if you want to discover firsthand what an owl eats, learn how flight evolved differently between birds and bats, forage through the stream looking for aquatic critters, or venture into the far reaches of our woods and trails all while having an amazing camp experience!

Camp Blocks: Camp will be organized into three seasonally themed blocks!

  • Nature Detectives 1 - Week of 7/7:  Kick off this summer by learning all of the lesser known details of our natural world, and explore all that Audubon has to offer! Campers can put their detective hat on and unravel the mysteries of nature around us!
  • Aquatic Adventures - Week of 7/14:  Let’s wade into some aquatic ecosystems this week and learn all about what kinds of critters we can find in our pond, lake, river, and vernal pool! Get up close and personal with frogs, salamanders, tadpoles, and more!
  • Plant Pals and Bird Buddies - Week of 7/21:  This time of year is peak season for wildflowers and learning all about our pollinators! From Trumpet Honeysuckle and Hummingbirds to Asters and Bumblebees, come explore how plants are important!
  • Species Superpowers - Week of 7/28: In this week, it’s all about survival of the fittest! Let’s investigate how animals have evolved superpowers in their ecosystems to overcome all sorts of challenges, like how dinosaurs evolved to fly and became birds!
  • Backwoods Backpackers - Week of 8/4: Each week includes a hike around the lake, but our Backpacker campers will get to see all of our property on untraveled trails, learn about outdoor safety, and discover the animals living deeper in the woods!
  • Planet Protectors - Week of 8/11: With a changing climate, campers will learn how they can help protect our planet and birds. Learn how our world is changing, and what you can do to make small impacts and differences towards a larger change!
  • Nature Detectives 2 - Week of 8/18: Nature Detectives 2 caps off our summer with the best of our Audubon traditions! Discover mysteries, track down a lost counselor, and resolve the mystery of our local legend, the Leatherman!
